Synoptic thinking is the real jump from GCSE
The highest-mark questions reward connecting ideas across topics: linking a physical process to its human and economic knock-on effects, or pulling in a concept from one unit while answering a question rooted in another. Revise your units in total isolation from each other and those synoptic marks get a lot harder to reach.
Case studies need precision, not polish
A good case study is detailed and honestly evaluated: specific data, actual dates, and a real acknowledgement of where it falls short or how representative it actually is. Presenting it as a flawless, uncomplicated example is exactly the opposite of what's expected.
The independent research unit
If your specification includes an independent research or investigation unit, go back and critically review your own methodology and data-collection choices, the same way you'd evaluate anyone else's research. That's genuine preparation, not something to finish and never look at again.
Building an answer that actually evaluates
Weigh up several factors or perspectives before reaching a judgement. Back everything with specific, accurate data and named examples. And where the question allows it, make your synoptic links explicit rather than hoping the examiner spots the connection themselves.

Watch for revising units in isolation and missing the synoptic connections, presenting a case study as uncomplicated instead of evaluating its limitations, and generic evaluation with no specific data or named examples behind it.
